The Crossroads Blues Festival, now in its 16th year (2025), is an annual event that celebrates the rich heritage of blues music. Organized by the Crossroads Blues Society, a non-profit organization, this festival aims to raise funds for its “Blues in the Schools” program, which keeps the blues genre alive by educating and inspiring the younger generation. Held at Lyran Park in Rockford, the festival attracts music enthusiasts, both local and national, who come together to enjoy a day filled with soulful performances, vibrant energy, and a sense of community.
The Crossroads Blues Festival is not just a regular music festival; it is a platform that supports and promotes the blues genre. Proceeds from the festival go towards funding more than 180 programs for over 8600 people. These programs, organized by the Crossroads Blues Society, aim to educate and expose individuals, especially youth, to the history, artistry, and cultural significance of blues music.
The Crossroads Blues Festival has experienced tremendous growth since its inception. What started in 2010 as a local festival in Byron, Illinois, soon outgrew its initial venue and moved to Rockford in 2014 to accommodate the increasing number of attendees and performers. The festival’s popularity continues to soar, attracting both local and national talent.
The festival’s success can be attributed to the efforts of the Crossroads Blues Society and its dedicated team of volunteers. Their commitment to preserving the blues genre and creating an unforgettable experience for festival-goers has made the Crossroads Blues Festival a staple event in the Rockford community.
