Way back in the 1970s, Milwaukee had plans to expand Locust Street between Humboldt and Holton. But the residents of Riverwest had different ideas. They passionately voiced their opposition, and, surprisingly, the authorities listened. In 1976, the decision to expand was reversed, and in celebration, the neighborhood threw a party. The Locust Street Festival of Music and Art was born out of this victory, and it continues to be a symbol of community strength and unity.
The Locust Street Beer Run, hosted by Lakefront Brewery, is a staple of the event and is set to return in 2024. So, lace up your running shoes, but don’t forget to bring your beer goggles too! It is 1.6 miles and for 21+.
2025 marks the 46th anniversary of this party!
